FANTASTiC | 16 May 2022 | 342 MB
The Persian Essentials series by Gio Israel exposes the hidden sounds of ancient Persian music.
Dating back thousands of years, the history of musical development in Iran expands through various neighboring cultures, making it one of the richest and most influential musical regions of the old world.
The great Sufi poet and mystic Rumi, opened his most significant book, the Masnawi, with the request - “Listen to the Ney!” Believed to carry the whispers of God himself, the ney has become a fundamental instrument of spiritual lineage throughout the region, played devotionally in both ceremony and ritual.
Practiced for 4,500–5,000 years, the ney remains one of the oldest musical instruments still in use today.
The origin of the word "ney" dates back to Sumerian culture, where it developed from the "Na" family of wind instruments. Musicians who play the ney are called "nayi" in Arabic and "neyzen" in Farsi (Persian).
For this pack, we spent a day in the studio with Iranian-born and musical master Amir Shahasar.
