Cyber security awareness: Introduction to cyber security at home

Internet security and cyber security are terms that are sometimes used interchangeably but many people are using the term "Cyber Security" now, but they are really the same thing.  This course is an introduction to cyber security and as such you are truly just being introduced to the different areas that you should consider when thinking about cyber security.

Businesses may get security evaluations done and they will always find an issue to address.  It all boils down to how much money do you want to invest.  We cover the various areas of concern in this course.  Afterwards you might want to upgrade your existing anti-virus or router.  Although this course is designed for home users, it also applies to business.  The exception is with business, everything in this course applies plus more.

Who this course is not for:

This course is not for computer technicians or those people who are very skilled in computers and looking for advanced techniques to build on their existing protection.  You might want to look into taking a Certified Ethical Hacker course to learn those things.

Who this course is for:

This course is designed for newbies, computer novices, someone that knows how to use email, internet and the main software programs you use every day.  You don't really dive into any settings and you might have only heard of the "Control panel" in Windows but you don't go in there yourself.  Maybe you know about Windows updates and anti-virus, maybe you don't.  You may have heard a few things that are in this course and there will be some stuff that is new to you.  You don't need to know how to do any of what is taught in this course.  You will at least know what to ask a technician for and have them do those things.  After all, if you don't ask the right way, you won't get the right product or service.

There are many resource videos linked to in each section that go into more depth on some specific examples because this course is meant to give you an overview only.  We can not go into step by step how to setup security on Windows 11 for example because you might be on 10 or maybe Windows 12 is out, or you're on a Mac.  Just one of these things alone can be an entire course in itself.  Also the different hardware devices and software applications will have different steps, so this course can not possibly go into step by step instructions for anything, but it will give you ideas of what to look into further.  So you can then for example lookup how to do a certain thing you learn on your particular operating system or your particular hardware.

This is my first online course and after having created it, I noticed I had to make many adjustments to have it fit for the course format here.  I hope you find it helpful and your honest feedback is helpful to make improvements for my next online course.
