Who doesn't want or need an expansive contemporary extended sans that has a sense of style and swagger… what if it had a lowercase, small caps and various numeral options… how could you say no? This was the foundational argument I made for myself when I drew the initial alphabet on my birthday last year (something I do each year, draw a new font, kind of a fun OCD thing). I wanted to see a wide, utilitarian sans that had more to it than just a basic character set and didn't resemble standard geometric models. As I continued sketching, the letterforms were being influenced more by my ‘lettering tendencies’ than the normal mechanical trappings of drawing flat, wide letters. The letters have retained aspects of letters created by hand — stresses, modulation, naturally ending terminals. Truncation and quick clipping of strokes became antithetical to the letterforms I drew, so I continued this once I brought the design into the computer. I kept it precise and dependable, but made every attempt to keep a conscientiously crafted typeface and not let it devolve into a grid-based drone. As such, it works just as well looking back in time as much as it does assuming a lead role in a sci-fi movie.

Strange Alphabets is a narrow Arts & Crafts display font inspired by late 1800’s book covers and an early 1980’s variation of the Siouxsie & the Banshees band logo. Strange Alphabets includes copious punctuation and symbols. It’s loaded with fractions, numeric ordinals and operators because everyone needs mathematics; including goths.?? In OpenType savvy applications, the first and last letter of a word will receive a small diamond ornament. If a word starts with M, the single diamond splits into three. Words starting with O will automatically use a tall O. If you’d like to force a tall O in the middle of the word, use a zero. Words that start with a double O such as Oolong, will receive a pair of tall O’s. A pair of O’s in the middle or at the end of a word will be replaced by a linked ring ligature.??If your application allows you to access OpenType stylistic alternates, you can change the A and H cross-bars into small rings and remove all the diamonds from the M. The hyphen, en dash and em dash are replaced with ring ornaments. A separate diamond ornament is included under Unicode 25C6. If you want to disable the automatic OpenType substitutions, turn off your application’s standard ligatures feature.

Neon Bugler is a font based on the third logo created by Harry Warren in early 1975 for his sixth grade class newsletter, The Broadwater Bugler, at Broadwater Academy in Exmore, Virginia, on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. We designed Mrs White for our next book for children. We needed a clean script that would give a feeling of a primary school handwriting. Mrs White is filled with ligatures and contextual alternates which gives her very smooth line of text. Scripts shouldn't be used without lowercase letters so we added a small caps for headlines and acronyms. Check out the manual for more information on how to use Mrs White. Polish language use latin characters but we would like our Eastern neighbors to be able to enjoy Mrs White so we added cyrillic alphabet (script and caps).
