The Anduaga typeface is the interpretation of the calligraphy that Joseph Anduaga proposed for teaching the first letters in the book published in 1780 Arte de escribir por reglas y sin Muestras... printed in the Imprenta Real in Madrid. Anduaga proposed a system based in composition rules that broke with the imitation models prevailing at that time. Ceebo is a friendly sans-serif, which show some aspects of a humanist and grotesque typeface. It retained more details of writing and got some forms and characteristics of an italic. The font contains some alternative glyphs. It also contains some ligatures and discretionary ligatures. In addition, there are adjusted figures and additional character for uppercase letters, lowercase letters and small caps, which react by OpenType-Feature. The font was designed to stay legible also in small sizes: beside as possible open counters, a tall x-high, distinct vents and cuts, it especially are the details of the glyphs which make it discernable. The regular weight is slightly thinner than other sans-serif fonts, moreover the diacritics and small glyphs were designed for small sizes by taller and more open forms. The resulting “ruggedness” is mellowed by half-rounded stems and pointed stem ends.

Cast is a subtle sans serif type family of six weights with great properties for professional typography. Open forms, strive for perfect curves and a modern and slightly technical touch are attributes of Cast. The weights from light to black are well graded and the 467 glyphs per style cover an extended range of Latin languages (Latin Extended-A). Numbers of OpenType features allow different figure sets, fractions and much more. The manual kerning for every single weight represents the care and the quality of this font. An outstanding attribute of Cast is the performance in every size. Cast had its beginning in 2007 during Dominique Kerber’s Typedesign study (CAS Typedesign) at the ZHdK in Zurich (Switzerland). After graduation, Dominique Kerber continued working on this project to complete this fully developed font in March 2011. The professional exchange with his former fellow student Alex Meier in a shared studio offered enrichment in this lengthy process. The concept of Cast is to combine the optical and formal requirements to a type in small text with the ones for display or signage use. Are ink traps necessary for example? Do they look nice in big sizes? How does optimal legibility behave in varying dimensions? What technical opportunities are there? Cast gives its own (possible) answers to these and hopefully some other questions in typography.

Low stroke contrast, generous spacing, and fine-grained weights from Light to Extra Bold make FF Hertz a workhorse text typeface which holds up well under today’s widely varying output conditions from print to screen. The quite dark Book style works well on e-ink displays which usually tend to thin out letters, as well as in print when you want to evoke the solid letter image of the hot-metal type era. Two sizes of Small Caps are included: A larger size for abbreviations and acronyms, and a smaller size matching the height of the lowercase letters. FF Hertz is a uniwidth design, that means each letter occupies the same space in all weights. This feature allows the user to switch between weights (but not between Roman and Italic styles) without text reflow. Jens Kutilek began work on FF Hertz in 2012. From a drawing exercise on a low-resolution grid (a technique proposed by Tim Ahrens to avoid fiddling with details too early), it soon evolved into a bigger project combining a multitude of influences which up until that point had only been floating around in his head, including his mother’s 1970s typewriter with its wonderful numbers, Hermann Zapf’s Melior as well as his forgotten Mergenthaler Antiqua (an interpretation of the Modern genre), and old German cartographic lettering styles. Jens likes to imagine FF Hertz used in scientific books or for an edition of Lovecraftian horror stories.

The name “Bicyclette” was chosen because this typeface is all about balance and elegance. The idea was to create a highly contrasted sans-serif family carefully balanced between gentle curves and sharp angles, with large capitals opposing uncommonly short lower case, through six distinctive weights. The letters are wide, and the capitals pop up in headlines while the lower case leaves a lot of white space between the text lines because of its small x-height. The edges are rounded (but not so much for the family to be called rounded), just enough to make the text feel slightly softer, gentler, while retaining some of that technical sans sharpness. The Bicyclette character set supports Western and Central European languages, and includes an extended set of monetary symbols. Each weight includes small caps, ligatures, proportional lining and oldstyle numbers, tabular figures, fractions and scientific superior/inferior figures.

It has only uppercase characters but each has alternate glyphs. It also has a lot of very useful features including multi-language support (with Cyrillic), discretionary ligatures, stylistic alternates, fractions, ordinals and contextual alternates that will automatically set alternate glyphs depending on frequency of appearance of the same character (even in web font but only in HTML5 browsers).
