Pacific Clipper has its roots in an old 1930s showcard lettering style. An extra bold version of this sign painter’s relic is shown in Carl Holmes' wonderful book on lettering. It may be described as what happens when Rudolf Koch's Kabel Heavy meets ATF's Novel Gothic. Also known as Sam’s Tune, Pacific Clipper’s noteworthy features include wedged crossbars in the capital A, E, F, and H. Overcurving is present in the capital B, D, P, and R while vertical strokes in the lowercase b, d, h, k, l, and t are chopped off obliquely. Figures in Pacific Clipper are also refreshingly different, particularly the number 4. This lettering favorite turned retro typeface has been extended to include a variety of weights. Pacific Clipper is now available in the OpenType format. Some new characters have been added to this OpenType version as Stylistic Alternates and Historical Forms. The Kazimir typeface was created by Yury Ostromentsky & Ilya Ruderman in 2015. This static contrast serif typeface has five styles in five weights: from Light to Black. Kazimir typeface is the new way to show Russian book & magazine typography from late XIX to early XX century, especially the typeface of “The History of Russian Philology” of P. N. Polevoy, published by A. F. Marx Publishing House in 1900. For a modern viewer the typography of those years seems unusual and kind of naive. When we take a book or a magazine from that time it invokes a “They don’t do that anymore” feeling. Kazimir combines the typographic features of that period with contemporary aesthetics. Kazimir has two stylistic sets — Regular & Irregular in both Roman & Italic styles. The Regular set (the default one) is a more modern character set, and the Irregular one has more display characters. In Adobe programs you can choose the set in the OpenType menu: “Stylistic set / Set 1”. You may use Regular & Irregular characters separately or combine them in any way you want. Kazimir is good for both short texts and headlines. It contains ligatures, case sensitive forms and extra pre-revolutionary symbols.

Having spent more time with MS5, and listening to community feedback, I’ve come up with a heap more brushes. This set contains over 50 brushes for pencilling, inking, and painting! The Inking brushes now include several specialty inkers reflecting the extra time I’ve had to spend with the app, too. Lando Calbrusshian, Tricky Dick, Feather Fawcett, Big Tex, Bob’s Big Belly, The Natural, and my new Tech Pen are easily the best inking tools I’ve ever made and reflect my constant process of iteration. The Painterly brush category sees the addition of Photoshop style painting tools. If you’re used to the hard-round and more opaque painting style of Photoshop, these brushes will be great to bridge your transition to Manga Studio. I use them for block-in and now can’t imagine the app without them. The Pencil brushes see several new additions including an alternate version of many previously offered brushes more attuned to working at lower resolutions, a digital pencil tool that mimics the sort of mark-making one would have in Manga Studio 4 or Photoshop, a grainy and easily controllable tool that mimics pencilling in Painter, grease pencils and shaders, and more.
I'm just completely in love with all hand-lettered artwork at the moment...I could stare at all of it for hours on end...particularly typographical quote posters...and wedding invites....and custom address stamps ...I couldn't take it any longer and just had to make something reflective of all of the beautiful custom hand lettered creations out there...so I whipped out my pens :) Every stroke is made with love and attention...the same love and attention any doting illustrator gives to any unique art piece....The idea is to give you something you can use quickly, to make it look like you toiled over your custom type artwork for hours :) I hope it helps you as much as its intended to!
