Smart De-Interlacer is a plugin for Adobe Photoshop for the de-interlacing of interlaced video frames. Generally, interlaced frames are a result of time-ramping footage via fields instead of frames or converting from one framerate to another such as 24fps to 30fps for instance, where 3:2 pulldown is added therefore generating 6 new interlaced frames for every one second of film footage. Smart De-Interlacer works by copying or interpolating every other field (line) with the one prior, thus reconstructing an original image. The result will never be as good as the original since the new fields are interpolated but it will provide a reasonably good result.

Photometric Noise is a plugin for Adobe Photoshop that simulates CCD camera noise. The image sensor employed by most digital cameras is called a charge coupled device (CCD) that converts light into electrons. It then reads the accumulated charge of each cell in the image and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) turns each pixel’s value into a digital value by measuring the amount of charge at each photosite. As with most CCD sensors, unwanted artifacts can sometimes be visible in low-light conditions that manifest themselves as noise in the dark areas of the image. Photometric Noise simulates this low-light noise effect. Photometric Noise provides a simplified interface with a set of easy to use controls. The amount slider specifies the amount of prevalent noise while the photometric button toggles between normal and photometric noise. A photometric noise curve controller allows the user to modify the black to white curve with a handy visual display built right into the interface. Photometric Noise offers fixed, additive and subtractive noise application options.

 

 

The purpose of this utility is to blend existing images in a very fast and easy way, using a layer mask for transparency. The process is simple ... load the base picture followed by a top layer image, then add a mask and the program automatically merges everything together. Diffuse is very similar to Adobe Photoshop own diffuse filter with a key difference - it supports sub-pixel (fractional) diffusion. Ascii Art is a fun filter for Adobe Photoshop for creating ascii art from images. ASCII art is a graphic design technique that uses computers for presentation and consists of pictures pieced together from the 95 printable (from a total of 128) characters defined by the ASCII Standard from 1963 and ASCII compliant character sets with proprietary extended characters (beyond the 128 characters of standard 7-bit ASCII). Ascii Art works by mapping heavier toned ascii characters to darker areas and lighter toned ascii characters to brighter areas. For instance, the character maps to a darker color while the character  maps to a brighter color. Ascii Art captures exactly what is displayed in the preview window and outputs it directly to a text file. Using Ascii Arts various features, the user can control appearance of the output including scale, height and header information is available. If the preview window is zoomed in or cropped, the captured image will reflect the zoom and cropping. Therefore, the preview window should be thought of as the camera viewfinder.

 

 

Box Fitting is a program originally developed by the genius mind of programmer / artist Jared Tarbell ported to Adobe Photoshop. The algorithm works by creating a single box and enlarging it until it either reaches the maximum size allowed or reaches the edge of another box. Ultimately, the canvas is filled with as many boxes as possible turning the image into a beautiful mosaic of randomly-sized squares. Box Fitting provides flexible control over how many boxes to create, the maximum size allowed and a random seed generator. It allows the user to sample color from the image or assign a custom color with a variation threshold. Box Fitting also features a preview and render multiplier for high resolution imaging.
