What kind of country music sample label would this be if we didn't dedicate a pack to Music City? Home of country music, Nashville, Tennesee's foundation is deeply rooted in musical tradition. It became a national center for music publishing in the 1800s and the Ryman Auditorium - the “Carnegie Hall of the South” - was built in 1892. The first musical act to embark on a world tour came from (and was supported by) Fisk University, putting Nashville on the map as a global music center. The radio station WSM and its launch of the broadcast later called the Grand Ole Opry was established in 1925. The 1930s saw Jefferson Street transform into a lively hub for music and entertainment. When rock & roll began stealing the global spotlight in the 1950s, the city's music industry developed the Nashville Sound genre to revive country music sales, replacing the rough honky tonk music that dominated the scene with smooth strings and choruses, sophisticated background vocals, and smooth tempos associated with traditional pop. Throughout the decades since, Nashville's music scene has evolved, morphed, and spun off several sub-genres and styles of country music. With roots so deep, however, there will always be a certain sound associated with Music City, and this pack captures it.

This pack pays homage to the Spaghetti Western soundtracks by the great composers of 1960s Italy like Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov, Bruno Nicolai, and Stelvio Cipriani. Some films that served as inspiration included Blood and Dust, A Desert of Gold, and The Devil Came to Town. These scores possess a unique quality that is irresistible for sampling. Western soundtracks have been famously sampled by acts like Jay-Z, Hans Zimmer, Flying Lotus, Eminem, and The Orb. Our collaborator, guitarist Luke O'Malley brought a modern flare to the pack, making it versatile for all types of creators. Instruments in the pack include banjo, classical guitar, lap steel, a 966 Fender Coronado, two custom guitars Luke had built while working on the Red Dead Redemption 2 video game score, and more. It's not a Spaghetti Western sound without some fuzz. We processed these sounds using a Lightpedal by Gamechanger Effects, CXM 1978 reverb by Chase Bliss, Catalainbread Fuzzrite (a recreation of the Mosrite fuzz that was used on all the Spaghetti Westerns), and a Black Cat Monster K-fuzz, among others.

Award-winning audio producer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, Doug Organ crafted vintage country music loops and one-shots that capture yes, the outlaw country sound, but also western swing, honkytonk, California country-rock, Bakersfield Sound, and even some blues. Focusing on country music from the 1960s and 1970s, this pack is a little Willie and Waylon, a little Doug Sahm; it's part Johnny Cash, part Merle Haggard, and part Patsy Cline. It pulls inspiration from Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, Buck Owens, Loretta Lynn, and the Flying Burrito Brothers. If you want to harken to the days of "cowboys in the studio" in your next project, this pack is for you.
Splice Country Dippin' Sauce - Indie Country

Consider this your indie country starter pack. Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist Jarrad K explored bands and musicians who, while influenced by American Country music, don’t fit neatly into the 'country' genre - artists like Wilco, Andrew Bird, Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes, Bon Iver, and more. The resulting one-shots and loops are exciting and alive, sometimes even slightly off-kilter. They include the textures he reaches for when digging through samples to evoke feelings of melancholy, hopefulness, tension, and release. To achieve this, he took a hybrid approach to recording the drums with ribbon and dynamic mics so they'd retain a punch while feeling warm and cozy. To further capture that authentic, dynamic sound, he recorded onto cassette tape using a Yamaha MT8X and printed some drums through the Tascam 38 tape machine.
