Follow Joel Grimes as he takes you through the process of creating his latest character portrait of a Buffalo Soldier.
While coming up with some new ideas for what I call a "character" portrait, I started thinking about the buffalo soliders of the United States Army. They were a Calvary formed in the U.S. Army of African American soliders. They were nicknamed "Buffalo Soldier" by the Native Americans during the American Indian War. I started connecting with friends of mine to find someone who does history reenactments of past wars, and sure enough I was connected with Jim. Jim met with me and my team at Watson Lake in Prescott, AZ for our shoot with a full buffalo solider uniform and rifle. In this course, you will get to see how I shot the images, as well as my post production on one of the images to create a time period piece feel of old plate film.
