Documentary Filmmaking 101 - This course is aimed at introducing aspiring documentary filmmakers to the more formal aspects and processes that go into producing a factual film. It does not at all claim to be an exhaustive course on all aspects of filmmaking but it will give students a sound grounding and solid framework for producing films that will take viewers on journeys opened up by the filmmaker. The key element here is to provide filmmakers with the basics to keep control of the process of filmmaking to ensure that the storyline is realized.
There are 9 lessons – and they don’t necessarily follow on from each other but to get a better understanding I recommend that you watch the Lessons in numerical order. I have designed the lessons in such a way that they are more informative than they are prescriptive. Filmmaking for me is a very personal activity and I tend to read, watch and experience as much as I can on the subject and then bringing it all together I choose the best way for me to approach a film.
