Thank you for joining me on this break out discovering and working with backlighting! I’m just a tad bit obsessed with light and backlighting is my absolute most favorite way to illuminate my subjects in a photo. In fact, I use backlighting in the majority of my work, sometimes it is very dramatic and other times it is pretty subtle – but it’s almost always there in some way. I think that my obsession with backlighting started when I realized how magical it could be and even more so, how versatile it was. I could take an image and alter the feel of it depending on how I used the light from behind my sub-ject. Sometimes it was gooey, warm and dreamy and others it was more clean and subtle or even deep and dramatic. Over the last few years, I’ve found and perfected many dif-ferent ways to use a natural (or even artificial) light source in order to achieve my preferred lighting situation for my sub-jects. By using certain tools and techniques you can create beautifully lit photos by backlighting – let’s get started!
