Description
This is not a long course.
You could easily complete it in a week to ten days. It uses the 80/20 Rule to show you how to quickly improve your English speaking skills in the real world by focusing on your intonation, which is often the missing link for students. Good intonation helps people understand you immediately and makes you sound more fluent, even if your grammar is intermediate.
What is the 80/20 Rule? It states that 20% of the effort creates 80% of the gains.. In this course, we're going to focus on that 20% of work and make 80% progress towards sounding more fluent, and more like a native speaker. (We also call the 80/20 rule the Pareto Principle)
If you fix these simple things, even if you are at an intermediate level, you can be easily understood and people may even think your level is higher than it is because of the way you sound when you speak.
This course doesn’t teach you basic grammar.
There are already so many great courses out there that do that. The methods in this course have been developed over several years of teaching intermediate and advanced students, seeing the common things even my advanced students were still getting wrong in their intonation and pronunciation that kept them from sounding fluent and feeling good about their English speaking.
They often thought they just needed to study harder, but as graduate students and professionals, often with families, sometimes just finding the time for more classes wasn't possible. Sometimes their company brought in teachers for English classes at 7 am every day. Despite this, learning to speak better from a textbook was way too slow. They needed to speak well immediately.
As it turns out, the solution was to take a different approach.
This course isn’t just a list of words and idioms to memorize either.
There are some great free tools online for that as well, which I will share with you so that you can use them if and when you need them. Instead, I have gathered the materials my professional students and I used to get them over their speaking problems, and put them in this course to share with you.
There are so many advantages to learning English well, which is why you've been studying so hard. And there are so many ways to learn, textbooks, apps and online courses and teacher, but even then, you are kind of left on your own to go out in the world and apply the lessons. I'd like to spend the rest of my career building bridges between the textbook lessons and the real world implementation that English students need to develop solid, confident English skill.
What this course does do is:
teaches you how to develop your pronunciation and your intonation, so that you sound more like a native speaker with just a few short activities working with your mind and your mouth to actually speak better
shows you how to unlock the key to advanced English speaking and listening, so that you understand more and continue to naturally develop the phrases, idioms and collocations we native speakers use every day by changing your perceptions.
gives you recall reviews, practice activities and flashcards at just the right time in the lessons to best strengthen your memory
works with our tendency to multitask, keeping you challenged and engaged
helps you create your own 80/20 system for improvement, so that you can continue growing in key areas over time, even when you are very busy. It also tells you what those key areas are!
English is not engineering.
How we study English and how we actually speak are not the same thing. Languages are not things we sit at a desk memorizing, with the idea of using five years into the future.
Language is a natural human ability that we use immediately as we learn it, word by word.
English is a real world physical skill, a skill of mind and mouth.
All of us have this ability, including you!
Even so, we've all had those days when our new language just will not flow.
Sometimes this happens because the pressure is on and we get nervous. Other days we are just tired and our brain needs a rest. Sometimes this may even cause us to question whether we will ever learn at all. I would like to let you know that this is perfectly normal. Every single student I have ever had and myself as well, when learning languages, have days days where it just won't come out smoothly, so please don't get discouraged about that.
Students often respond to these poor speaking days by thinking that studying more is what they need, but it is quite probably the opposite. It might be a rest from the books would do you good for a few days. In addition, sometimes more grammar study is just not what you need. Language is an active skill, something we do. In this course, I simply teach you how to do it better. There is a secret to it.
Often, when you find yourself still unable to understand everything after lots of English study, the missing skill is recognizing phrases and using the patterns that native speakers naturally use.
Native speakers have very specific speech patterns, and you can learn them too.
In this course, I demystify this process, and we focus on developing these skills in a natural way, just as we learned our first language. It turns out, there is a lot of research to back up the fact that you improve in a language simply by thinking it and letting it come out your mouth.
Finally, this course is organized in such a way that you can easily remember what you learned, put it into practice and begin to speak more like a native English speaker right away using the English knowledge, vocabulary and grammar that you have right now.
If you can read this, no doubt you have already taken quite a few English classes! So let's just take the English you already know, and polish it up and make it shine.
Confidence follows practice.
So if you are ready to take action, join me and let’s get started building and expanding your real world English speaking skills.
