Course DescriptionThis course will introduce you to the methods commonly used to model groundwater flow and solute transport in the subsurface. The course focused on applications of hydrogeological modeling methods to examine important flow and transport processes by using Visual Modflow Flex. This course will provide you with a comprehensive background in modeling of groundwater flow and solute transport in the subsurface. The primary objective of the course is to provide you with sufficient training in the fundamental theory and application of groundwater modeling to be able to develop the skill sets required to address basic environmental problems that are commonly addressed via groundwater flow and solute transport modeling.The course contains the following sections :- Course Introduction- Fundamentals of Groundwater Modeling- Physical proprieties of porous media- Governing equations- Principles of groundwater models- Introduction to Visual Modflow Flex- Conceptual Model- Numerical Model- And five Exercises on Visual Modflow Flex which contain the following sections :· Building the model· Assigning parameters and boundaries· Groundwater flow analysis· Solute transport modeling· Visualizing output in 2-D and 3-D· Automatic calibration using PestCourse objectives :- Improved understanding of the fundamental theory behind groundwater modeling and solute transport- Competence in applying groundwater modeling and solute transport modeling methods- Ability to Build a flow and a transport model based on available data and known constraints- Familiarity with Visual Modflow Packages such as MODFLOW, MT3DMS, MODPATH and PEST
