Learn Character Animation in Adobe After Effects

This very simple character animation class will teach you how to animate a walk cycle and run cycle in Adobe After Effects. No plugins required. We will be animating using the path option as well as basic position and scale animations.

Character animation is one of the more complex things you will have to do as a motion designer. For this reason, I recommend this class for intermediate students. For absolute beginners, I suggest taking one of my beginner classes such as "Motion Design Jump Start - Your First Typography Animation".

In this class you'll learn how to:

• Animate a walk cycle

• Animate a run cycle

• Animate a character using simple path, position, and scale properties

• Create a boil effect(hand drawn look)

• How to export your animation to share

• A character animation using the techniques taught in this class

You can complete the class project by following these steps:

1. Download the artwork that is provided

2. Follow along with my lessons

3. Then take what you've learned and apply it to your own character animation

4. Download the completed project file in the class resources, it might help if you get stuck on a lesson

What You Need:

• Adobe After Effects

• Adobe Media Encoder to export

To share your class project follow these steps:

1. Export your animation in mp4 format

2. Upload your video to a video-sharing platform such as YouTube or Vimeo

3. I suggest setting your video to "Unlisted" if you do not want it shared publicly

4. On the projects page share the link to your video
