I have a passion for art, but I also have a passion for teaching art.I've had the pleasure of working with many companies over the years, including Procreate, Clip Studio Paint, XP-Pen, Huion, Ohuhu, and more.I've taught thousands of students how to improve their drawing skills and character illustrations and I'd love to help you on your journey of learning too. Let me share with you the essential character drawing techniques that have taken me years of study to figure out!If you've always wanted to learn how to draw characters, but didn't know where to start, then join in today to learn how to easily sketch stylized female faces. What if I am an absolute beginner?Beginners should feel at home in this course. I like to walk you through the process step by step, and along the way, think back to questions I would have had when I was still a beginner. If you ever have a question pop up, you can also message me. Some basic drawing knowledge is nice to have, but if you don't know how to draw, I think you can still work alongside me in this course to up your skills. What materials will I need for class? If you'd like to work alongside me, you'll want an iPad or iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, and the Procreate app. You can also use other mediums and follow along with the steps. I will just be sharing techniques for Procreate (and occasionally for pencil tools) in this class however. How will this course help me in my life, personally and professionally?Sketching stylized characters I've found is very fun but also therapeutic. Drawing helps you enter into an almost meditative state at times, helping you forget worries you may have. Drawing characters can be a form of creative expression and a way to communicate ideas and emotions visually. If you have an interest in animation, comics, or game design, knowing how to draw characters can be a valuable skill and may lead to opportunities in those fields. How is this course taught? This course is taught in English with overhead video tutorials, example slides, and visual guides. You will also receive worksheets to help you solidify what's being taught in the class. I typically teach by sharing the overall idea and concept first. After that, I typically demonstrate the ideas through an example. Then I share a worksheet or project idea and how you can put the concepts into action through practice. How do I improve my art?LEARN and PRACTICE, and then we repeat these things for the rest of our lives. How I learn is I love to read art books and I also like to take art classes in person and online.I've embraced the idea of being a lifetime student. When I'm out of learning mode for too long, I find my work begins to plateau or even get worse! When that happens, I know it's time to dedicate myself to learning for a while. So I'll watch a class, or I head out to the community college, or join a painting group. Then after I've learned a bit of new information (or have been reminded of something I already knew, but with a fresh perspective) then it's time to put it into practice. So I make a painting study from life, a photo, or from my memory to really test the ideas, focusing on whatever it is I learned.I'm also a big advocate of challenges. Challenging yourself to 30 days of painting everyday, or 100 days, etc.Embrace a lifestyle of being a forever learner, who diligently works hard and puts forth the effort through practice.More information:My name is Gabrielle Brickey and I'm an artist and teacher. I love drawing and painting the human face. One of my favorite subjects to draw are just simple female characters. Drawing female characters is so much fun. Today in class we'll be focusing on female characters and exploring different angles of the head. I want to share with you ways to approach new angles so that they're less intimidating to draw. Drawing simple front views is always fun.But when we have a good reference, we can feel competent drawing more unique views and when we feel comfortable drawing characters from our views, we can tell more stories in our art. Faces are exciting to draw and a great way to express your creativity. When you join the class, you'll get access to tons of class worksheets and hundreds of reference photos that you can use in your drawings. We'll talk about proportions, line quality, and how to draw each feature of the base step by step. We'll talk tips for drawing hair and how to create a story with the help of expressions and accessories. Then we'll go over how to sketch a character in front view, three quarter view, side view, and more. Through demos, I'll be sharing my experiences and techniques I use in drawing female characters, so that hopefully you can pick up some ideas for yourself and bring them back to your own work. I'm so excited to expand on the subject of character drawing. I hope you'll join me in class.
