In this class we will attempt to learn from the great 19th century painter Vincent Van Gogh. We will study in depth Van Gogh’s approach to color, brush work and form, hopefully without experiencing the pain and struggle he went through while creating his art. We will focus on one of the subjects dear to Van Gogh – flowers. Using gouache we will paint replicas of his two famous paintings - Sunflowers and Irises in a Vase. Then we will attempt our own interpretation - peonies - from a photo. We will do this not to become a second Van Gogh, but to expand our artistic horizons, get our creative juices flowing and infuse our own paintings with Van Gogh's brilliant colors and positive energy.
