I am Mandar Marathe and welcome to the class “Watercolour Illustrations: Based on Client Requirements”.
I was recently asked to do more than a dozen watercolour illustrations for a company that makes cosmetic products.
And I thought I should share this process with you. That’s how the idea for this short class was born.
This is a beginner friendly class in which I take you through the process of making watercolour illustrations based on the requirements given by a client.
You’ll first learn about the steps involved in this type of project so that you get an overview of the whole process. In the following videos, you’ll first see the initial sketch I made and sent to my client for approval. Then you’ll see how I make a watercolour illustration based on that sketch. I narrate my process throughout the painting activity. You’ll see every color that I mix and the sequence in which I paint different objects in the illustration. These objects include various flowers, fruits, leaves and more. Along the way you’ll learn how to show the 3 dimensional form of various objects and how layering of colors helps in this. Your project for this class is to paint at least one illustration based on the ones shown in this class. If you want to go one step further, you should create your own composition using the same elements and paint that. Going through this class and doing the project will boost your confidence as a freelance artist to create watercolour illustrations based on your own theme or your client’s requirements.
