Watercolor Abstract Art: Parallel Lines

Parallel lines are equally spaced lines that never meet. As artists, we can take this concept and play with it! Lines can be any shape, color, or texture. We can play with the thicknesses, vibrancy, and gradients while still maintaining that constant space between lines. And, we can also be “loose” with the term line. Today’s class explores the notion of parallel lines, but allows for variations in placement, distance, color, and other aesthetics of the “lines.” There’s beauty in the consistent space that separates the lines, or in an artist’s view, the space between similar objects. Is it quantity of lines or repetition? Or, something different entirely? Class examines these properties in 2 parts: Creating swatch cards and then painting a final design. Supplies are watercolor paints, brushes, and paper.
