Have you ever wanted to explore using "leading lines" in your artwork? Lines are one of the most basic tools in the art world that can make an effective composition even more intriguing

Today's class introduces using lines in abstract paintings, not a a way to depict images, but to:

  • Balance elements in the composition

  • Direct the eye around the painting

  • Draw the eye to a specific area

  • Provide stark contrast to elements in the painting

Class is designed using a three step prompt to challenge you to create a finished painting using subtle colors, gentle shapes, and leading lines.

This class is geared towards beginning watercolor artists, as well as beginner abstract artists. There is a Class Supply List available for download, along with a Prompt Overview Sheet that may be helpful for students to view along with class.

The Class Demo uses watercolor paints, watercolor paper, a dip pen, and India ink. However, alternatives for the ink are discussed in class and include watercolors and a thin brush, a marker, or gel pen.
