In this class you will learn about the seven Principles of Design and then apply your knowledge through hands-on exercises exploring Pattern, Rhythm, Movement, Contrast, Emphasis, Balance and Unity. We’ll also be looking at the supporting roles of Repetition, Gradation, Variety, Proportion and Harmony.

Some of the things we will cover in this class:

• Explore the different characteristics of acrylic mediums and gels


• Create a deck of pattern cards as a reference tool


• Carve custom stamps with your original designs


• Draw a meditative mandala


• Learn how to harmonize paint colours

By the end of this class, you will have learned how to look at your abstract paintings with a critical eye to tell if something is missing and how to problem-solve using the Principles of Design.
