In this course, we will explore the concept of Focal Point as it pertains to landscape composition and impressionism. We'll take a look at some of the great masters of Impressionism and how they incorporated strong focal points into their landscape work. Then we will discuss a few ways to implement focal point into your own work -- and it all begins with what inspires you to paint! Finally, I'll take you through my own process -- from what kinds of things inspire me to paint landscapes, to some of the obstacles that can distract from the intended focal point, to completing sketches and color studies with focal point in mind.
This course is focused on the concept of Focal Point in Landscape Composition, with an eye out for the Impressionist style. Therefore, it applies no matter what visual media you work in! If you're interested in my oil painting techniques, I have quite a few courses that go into detail on my approach. I also have recently started a YouTube page called "Rachael Atelier." There you can find some full-length supplemental videos and demonstrations.
