In this class you will design a hand drawn kids print from a series of sketches you made. This class will take you through the development of a sketchy-kids pattern, from inspiration, to idea generation and sketching, transferring your sketches to the computer (while still retaining the hand-drawn look), and composing your repeating pattern. We’ll also cover the difference between a hero print and a coordinate print, so that you can get a head start on making some small collections of kids-prints!
For the class project, you’ll design one kids conversational (hero) print and one coordinate print sharing your process along the way. This class is for anyone who is looking to explore kids design! But is best for intermediate users who have some experience with Adobe Illustrator - but may or may not have any experience making a repeating pattern. Are you a beginner but want to jump in? Great! You can follow along with the class or take my “From Sketch to Screen: Design quirky critters using Adobe Illustrator” for a warm-up or introduction to simplified drawing and using illustrator to render characters.
