for the Intermediate Learner What you'll learn Create a rudimentary base layer for both subject and background in chalk pastel. Build texture and color gradually to create richness, texture and depth. Apply chalk pastel to replicate different textures such as the animal fur, the shiny eye, the rubbery nose and the blurry randomness of the gravel background. Control chalk pastel to minimize frustration and create desired effects in your drawing. Navigate subtle color differences in an animal that has lots of different "whites". Optional: Interpret a photo reference into a drawing using a different color palette than the reference. Requirements Have some concrete experience with chalk pastel, even if you've just taken one or two classes before this one. Description This course offers the seasoned bner or the intermediate chalk pastel artist a fresh and very thorough approach to replicating a realistic, three-dimensional dog in chalk pastel. We will walk thru the entire process together, from drawing the frame on your paper, to drawing the basic dog in pencil, to first layers of blended color to many subsequent layers of increasingly refined textures and colors. It is meant for the seasoned bner or intermediate learner who has some pastel experience but wants to practice and acquire more advanced techniques. Specifically, it is intended to instruct ways to create believable animal textures and also offers the option of interpreting the color palette from the reference photo to a different palette in your drawing. Lastly, it is meant to be a thorough and expansive class that offers lots of great information and new skills through the process of replicating a realistic animal. You will be carefully supported and guided through the entire process, from discussing which materials you will need, onto accurate measuring during the drawing process in order to replicate the image realistically. From there we will walk through how to add value including shading, lots of layering and texturing. When we are finished, you will walk away with an enhanced set of skills you can use to apply to more beautiful drawings.
