“The elements of new opportunities, the elements of new combinations are around, they are available to us it just takes pulling them together in new and different kinds of ways, and that skill is a system building skill” - Marc VentrescaAn innovation ecosystem is a network through which a set of diverse actors interact to enable constant innovation outcomes in a given region or domain. As ecosystem builders, we are working to enable the integration and positives synes between members for them to become more productive as a whole community at addressing a shared challenge.In this set of video tutorials, we expand upon the primary considerations in designing your own innovation ecosystem for addressing a complex challenge. To do this we will be using our Ecosystem Ideation Canvas.During the course we will walk you through this canvas helping you to better understand it by asking these key questions:What is the purpose of this ecosystem?Start by writing in the center box what is the purpose of this ecosystem, i.e. why are you creating it? Following on from this we want to give an account of the story we are going to tell about the ecosystem and its value.What are the factors affecting the challenge?Now in the circles marked “factors" we will up all the factors affecting this dynamic, and the different challenges contributing to the overall wicked problem that we wish the ecosystem to address.Who are the actors we need to bring together?Now we need to consider who are the individuals & organizations we want to be part of this community. We want to post up the different actors groups we may engage in our ecosystem and think about what activities they will be doing to build their capacities around the challenge areas.What is the supporting platform?Finally we need to think about the technology platform we will use to organize and communicate. Along with this define the value model, how we assess the ecosystems development and the shared knowledge base and set of tools needed by members.
