The largest figure of the Austrian expressionist literature and fine arts.

  • Biography: In March 1910 Kokoschka goes to Walden for the first time to Berlin. He seems the arrival in the capital of the German Reich to be like on the watershed between past and future.
    In 1911 he returns to Vienna. 1912 Kokoschka is known abroad (Budapest). On November 9, 1918 broke out the November revolution in Germany. On Aug 18, 1919 Kokoschka receives a contract for a seven-year professorship at the Dresden Academy. As of June 1920, he can take his leave of the Dresden Academy and goes to Vienna, where he remained for seven months. In April 1922, Kokoschka traveled with Dr. Hans Posse to Venice. He was also a time in Paris and traveled through Holland and then to London. Kokoschka traveled unusually far. Despite its Reisesucht he always returns to Vienna. In the autumn of 1930 made the first attacks against the Nazi Degenerate Art. On Feb 15, 1933, helps to clear the Prussian Academy of Arts. Many artists emigrated to the United States or fleeing to Prague or Paris. In August 1933 he moved to his mother's house to Liebhartstal. 1934 civil war broke out in Vienna, he wants to leave Vienna. On 24 July 1934 his mother dies, and goes on Sep 25, 1934 in his native city of Prague, where his sister Berta lives. Kokoschka decides to stay in Prague. On 11 July 1936 is the entry into force of between Adolf Hitler and Kurt Schuschnigg concluded by the Treaty, Austria declares to be a "German State". On 12 March 1938 German troops march into Austria one. Kokoschka not want to leave his sick sister. By flight and emigration of many of his collectors, he gets back into serious financial troubles. On 18 October Oskar flees with his girlfriend from Prague to London. Between 1940 and 1942 Kokoschka are several exhibitions in the U.S.. In London, he is regarded as a Czech citizen. In between, he considers himself too often in Scotland. In February 1947 Kokoschka takes to the British citizenship. Kokoschka in 1951 for his wife bought a plot in Olda Villeneuve on Lake Geneva. Kokoschka begins in February 1970 in Villeneuve writing his autobiography "My Life". In the summer of 1974 he contracted an eye disease, the following January he will be operated on. 1975 Oskar Kokoschka is again an Austrian citizen. On 22 February 1980 Oskar Kokoschka died in a hospital in Montreux. On 27 February he was buried in the cemetery of Clarens, near Montreux.
