The Microsoft product team is pleased to announce the availability of Windows Embedded Standard 7 SP1 (build 7601.24494). This build includes last updates to July 9, 2019.
July 9, 2019 — KB4507456 (Security-only update) About Windows Embedded Standard 7 SP1. After the October 31, 2014 cutoff, Microsoft stop providing hardware partners with copies of Windows 7 Home (Basic or Premium) and Windows 7 Ultimate. While Microsoft will continue to offer support for these expiring systems until 2020, and has not yet put an end date on the availability of Windows 7 Professional, essentially hardware buyers are now left with a choice – move to implementing Windows 7 Professional (at a significantly higher cost than Windows Embedded), migrate to the much-maligned Windows 8, or take advantage of the continued availability of the Windows Embedded Standard 7 platform.
This security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:
- Security updates to Windows Server, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Shell, Windows Input and Composition, and Windows Kernel.
July 9, 2019 — KB4507449 (Monthly Rollup)
This security update includes improvements and fixes that were a part of update KB4503277 (released June 20, 2019) and addresses the following issues:
- Security updates to Windows Server, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Shell, Windows Input and Composition, and Windows Kernel.
June 20, 2019 — KB4503277 (Preview of Monthly Rollup)
This non-security update includes improvements and fixes that were a part of KB4503292 (released June 11, 2019) and also includes these new quality improvements as a preview of the next Monthly Rollup update:
- Addresses an issue that prevents the Calculator application from following the Gannen setting when it is enabled. For more information, see KB4469068.
- Addresses an issue with evaluating the compatibility status of the Windows ecosystem to help ensure application and device compatibility for all updates to Windows.
- Addresses an issue that causes Internet Explorer 11 to stop working when it opens or interacts with Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) markers, including Power BI line charts with markers.
- Addresses an issue that may display the error, “MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and will unload it.” when you try to expand, view, or create Custom Views in Event Viewer. Additionally, the application may stop responding or close. You may also receive the same error when using Filter Current Log in the Action menu with built-in views or logs.
Features which are new to the SP1 version Windows Embedded Standard 7 are:
- SKU Compliance Packages
- These packages allow you to make sure that only features which are licensed for a specific SKU (e.g. WS7E) can be executed on the system – a special licensing service in Windows ensures this. This way you can build a full image with a WS7E SKU Compliance package but only the features which are licensed in WS7E will work. However you can still make use of packages which are allowed in WS7E but which contained also WS7P features in the past!
- SDBoot
- Windows Embedded Standard 7 can now be booted directly from an SD card!
- PMQ Mapping to Out of Box Drivers
- This new feature allows out of box drivers in the distribution share to be mapped automatically during the installation process. This was not possible in the RTM version.
