The upper part of the panel has buttons to perform many common tasks in Photoshop. The colored borders indicate groups that have related functions. Many keyboard shortcuts and menu commands can be handled by these buttons, so even if luminosity masks aren't needed, the buttons in this section can still run Photoshop. The top section also contains an active selection indicator. It's a dashed line that turns on anytime there is an active selection. Even if there are no matching ants showing on the image, the active selection indicator keeps the user constantly informed when a selection is present.

New Features/Improvements

In addition to the features discussed above, the TKActions V4 panel has many newly added functions and improvements over previous versions.

• Smart buttons. All buttons on the panel keep track of the current state of Photoshop. Buttons only function if the right conditions exist to complete the specified action. Fewer error messages are displayed as a result.
• Toggle buttons. Buttons that begin with "+/-" have dual purposes. They act as "on/off" or "either/or" switches for multiple actions. Click the button once to perform an action and then click it again to undo that action.
• Action-less actions. Instead of running actions from Photoshop's regular Actions panel, almost all actions in the V4 panel are coded into the panel itself. Only one small action set needs to be installed on the regular Actions panel to run the user's personal actions.
• Condensed history. All buttons only add one history state to the History panel. This keeps the History panel better organized, improves Photoshop's efficiency, and makes it so Ctrl-Z (Mac: Command-Z) can undo/redo the action.
• Simplified "View" function. "View" is now a toggle button. The first click turns the red overlay on to view a selection in view mode. The second click turns off the red overly and reloads the active selection.
• A more responsive interface. The panel's buttons and background automatically update to the user's chosen color theme preference.
• Faster "Clear Channels" action. The coding for this button has been updated to work well even with large, multi-layered image files.
