If you install the earlier Mac OS X version of Disk

If the warning message appears stating you are using the wrong drive, then you should not try to use the disk to your Mac.

Important: Even if one version of the system software may be identical to the version number to another, the software may not be exactly the same. For example, you can have a retail version of Mac OS X 10.5 installation disk and the computer may have come with Mac OS X 10.5. Your computer may have additional software specific to it included in its software CD (Mac OS X 10.5), which can not be present on the retail Mac OS X 10.5 disc. Be sure to use the original software discs that came with the computer when the reinstall Mac OS X, if you install the new version (such as installing a retail version of Mac OS X 10.5 to Mac compatible, that comes with Mac OS X 10.4 fine). This is particularly important in the creation and installation of custom disk images.
