Presley Slab Font Family
Presley Slab Font Family

https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/sudtipos/presley-slab

The lightest weight of Presley Slab takes inspiration from a late nineteenth-century type specimen, but what began as a decorative and delicate contrasted serif stirred Alejandro Paul’s imagination to conjure voluptuous reverse contrasted letterforms. These became the heaviest weight of Presley Slab that nods to the King of rock ’n roll’s lacquered hairstyle with its idiosyncratic ball terminals – which also give this font family its name. Its playful allure and swagger remains visible in the weights that stand between these two extremes but as the curls loosened, many things happened in the design process including the appearance of swashes and alternates.

Mogan is an upper and lowercase serif font with nicely balanced curves. Like all of my fonts it is inspired by lettering from the good old past, but it still has a strong modern appearance. Its wide range of stylistic alternates allows versatile design options and works perfectly for headlines, logos, posters, packaging, T-shirts, postcards and much more.

Aodaliya Font Family

https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/typeassociates/aodaliya/

As a practicing graphic designer there have been numerous occasions when I have needed a font that didn’t exist. More often than not the style I was looking for was described as an extra-condensed sans-serif with a contemporary look that was available in a variety of weights. Small caps would be useful, so would a range of numeral styles. And matching italics too, of course. The proportions would consider viewing on hand-held devices, cell phones, remote controllers. And not forgetting that the font would be used in situations which required stacking the lines close. So the overshoots needed to be eliminated – the exaggeration of extremities that are intended to avoid round characters appearing smaller than their more squarish counterparts, often colliding when linespacing is tight. As I refined the design, I tested it on several works-in-progress providing a valuable testing ground and proving popular with my clients.

Caslon Italian Font Family

Caslon Italian Font Family

Perhaps the strangest and ultimate example of experimentation in letterforms during the early nineteenth century was the Italian. Introduced by Caslon in 1821, it reverses the fat face’s stress—thins becomes thicks and thicks become thins—turning typographic norms on their heads. This new version extends the forms into new territory: a lowercase, an italic, and another one of the more unusual ideas of the time, the reverse italic or contra. Its limited success did not deter the typefounders from making another reverse stress form; the French Antique was less radical, but more commercially successful.
