Trillium Font Family
Trillium was designed by L. Harl Copeland, and first appeared in Alphabet Thesaurus Vol. 2 published by Photo-Lettering, Inc. in 1960. Copeland was one of the film lettering company’s earliest royalty-earning artists, making his bones as an ad letterer during the mid-20th century.
Although his initial contributions to the Photo-Lettering library consisted primarily of non-connecting brush styles, Copeland eventually explored a variety of genres, including this multifaceted interpretation of square Roman capitals. Referencing the original transparencies, Jeremy Mickel extended the limited character set into a fully-articulated typeface in 2011, dramatically transforming Trillium into a suite of complementary fonts which can be used independently or layered to create an array of dimensional effects.
