From 1887 to 1892 the photographer John Grabill - John C.H. Grabill - sent 188 photos to the Library of Congress for copyright protection. Grabill is known as a photographer who documented many aspects of the border life of developing the wild west - hunting, gold mining, city landscapes and white settler relations with Native American Indians. Most of his work was done in Deadwood in the late 1880s and 1890s.
