Frank Frazetta (February 9.1928 - May 10.2010) - American science fiction artist, illustrator, cartoonist, comic book author. One of the most influential artists of the genre.


About the Author

Frazetta was born on February 9, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. He graduated from the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts, where his teacher was Michael Falanga. The phalanx was a patron of the young artist until his death in 1944. With sixteen years Frank began drawing comics professionally, the first of his works were in the western style. Later switched to the Frazetta Comics superhero, drawing for magazines EC Comics, National Comics, has worked with Walt Disney. The most well known work of this period were Frazetty comics "Buck Rogers" and "Flash Gordon"-style space opera.
Since 1964, Frazetta started making covers for books, the most famous of which - a book about Conan and Tarzan. Frazetta also acted as animator in collaboration with Ralph Bakshi animated film in the famous "Fire and Ice." At the same time, he had to rethink their approach to painting:
"I never thought about the extent to exaggerated forms of people in my pictures, until then, until he met with rotoscoping. But I always felt that somewhere there must be certain women, like two peas similar to those that I come up with. "
Frazetta liked to portray the human body, nude men and women. Style drawings by Frank critics called "old-fashioned and energetic." Frazetta is considered a classic of fantasy illustration. His paintings are highly sought after, in 2009, one of them went to the auction at a price of $ 1 million. In 1999 the estate Frazetty in Pennsylvania has opened his personal museum.
Frank was married to Ellie (Eleanor) Frazette, they had four children: Alfonso, Frank Jr.., Billy, Holly and Heidi. July 17, 2009 Dorothy died of cancer, because of what Frank fell into a prolonged depression, and retired. In the winter of that year, his own son, Frank Jr. Alfonso. tried to make and sell his father's paintings from the museum. He was arrested by police at the request of three other children. In April 2010, children Frazetty find a settlement, the lawsuit was withdrawn, and now all four of the heirs will manage the museum.
After all those troubles, Frank briefly survived the Alley. Due to several strokes, has lost his right arm mobility in recent years, Frank drew the left. He died on 10 May 2010 in a hospital near his home in Florida.
