While most of web design and digital design books focus on the functionality side of the field (user experience, user interface, analytics, etc), The Patterns of Beauty aims to show how good digital design comes out of the convergence of aesthetics, functionality, and semiotics. Digital design aesthetics is analyzed through the eyes of the dichotomy Apollonian / Dionysian and the most recent achievement of the graphic design field with the goal of showing the reader how to create beautiful digital interfaces. Semiotics, the study of meaning, is applied to digital design through different principles aiming to let the reader understand how to create websites and interfaces that deliver the desired message.
