Sass is a powerful language that extends CSS with features like nested rules, variables, mixins, math operations, and more, in a CSS-compatible syntax. Because of this, many of today's popular websites, applications, and frameworks are built using Sass. In this course, we'll be coding along with Hampton Catlin, our guest teacher and creator of Sass.
Learn what Sass is, how the Sass compiler works, and the number of ways we can install Sass on our computer. Once we have Sass installed, we'll start by learning all about nesting, one of Sass' most useful features. Learn how to keep your code "DRY" by defining variables and creating snippets of shareable code with mixins. We'll then use the extend functionality of Sass to extend styles onto other selectors. Learn how to organize your project with partial Sass files, and use Sass libraries like Bourbon and Compass to help build faster and cleaner code. You'll also build a color pallet using Sass color functions, then build a function of your own. In this stage, we'll learn how to recognize and fix errors in our Sass. We'll also take a look at how Sass makes @media queries easy and efficient to work with. Finally, we'll cover how interpolation helps us create classes on the fly, and how to define if/else conditionals.
