In this class you will learn many of the common techniques and methods of painting with watercolors. It's a perfect resource for beginners that need to practice and understand the many aspects of getting started with watercolor painting.


To help facilitate the learning process there are several simple projects that you can complete to test your skills. As you dive into these demonstrations you will probably discover the biggest challenge is painting wet-in-wet. Which is exactly why most of the demos include this technique.


 


 



Who is this class for?

Beginners! This class is intended for anyone that is getting started with watercolor painting and needs a go-to source for understanding some of the common watercolor techniques.

Materials

You may not need all of these materials but I do recommend at least pointed round watercolor brush, 4-5 tubes of quality watercolor paint that includes primary colors, watercolor sketchbook 10-15 sheets w/ 100 lb. cold press paper, or better.

Watercolor spiral sketchbook (experiment with ideas)
Brushes
Squirrel Mop; #8, #5, #2 (optional)
Hake; small, medium & large (optional)
Round; #12, #10
Needle #8
Fan
Wild child (old round)
Paint - use artist grade
Ultramarine blue
Cobalt blue
Phthalo blue, or Cerulean blue
Alizarin crimson
Rose Madder
Cadmium red deep
Yellow ochre
Burnt Sienna
Lemon yellow
Viridian green
Cadmium orange
Neutral tint
White gouache
Other
Mijello palette; leakproof
Masking tape; 1.5" wide rolls
Spray bottle
Saunders cold press watercolor paper; full sheets 22x30"
Gator board to paint on, adhere paper to with masking tape; it's good to have several in various sizes
Collapsable water reservoirs X2; one for clean water and one to wash brushes
Old rags, or towels; great for drying brushes
Paper towels
