- Description: The negotiation techniques described by Chris Voss were born out of the FBI's crushing defeats. After the tragic events at Randy Weaver's farm in Idaho in 1992 and in the Branch Davidian sect in 1993, where a total of almost 100 people died, it became clear that traditional negotiation techniques do not work in extreme situations. Therefore, the FBI began to intensively search for fundamentally new approaches. As a result, 9 principles appeared, set forth by the author of this book - a top negotiator of the FBI with twenty-four years of experience.
- This book is a stunningly fascinating and at the same time simple guide to any negotiation. It doesn't matter whether we are talking about buying an international corporation or repairing a washing machine, the Chris Voss method will teach you how to get your way.
- The book is also published under the title "Negotiation Without Compromise. Negotiate as if your life depends on them."
- A former international hostage negotiator for the FBI offers a new field-tested approach to high-stakes negotiations - whether in the boardroom or at home. After a stint policing the rough streets of Kansas City, Missouri, Chris Voss joined the FBI, where his career as a hostage negotiator brought him face-to-face with a range of criminals, including bank robbers and terrorists. Reaching the pinnacle of his profession, he became the FBI's lead international kidnapping negotiator. Never Split the Difference takes you inside the world of high-stakes negotiations and into Voss' head, revealing the skills that helped him and his colleagues succeed where it mattered most: in saving lives. In this practical guide, he shares the nine effective principles - counterintuitive tactics and strategies - you, too, can use to become more persuasive in both your professional and personal lives. Life is a series of negotiations you should be prepared for: buying a car, negotiating a salary, buying a home, renegotiating rent, deliberating with your partner. Taking emotional intelligence and intuition to the next level, Never Split the Difference gives you the competitive edge in any discussion.
Additional information:
- A wonderful book and wonderfully read! I enjoyed it very much! All the stories told as examples are extremely good. I especially liked the story about an aunt kidnapped in Latin America, for whom they asked for a ransom of 150 thousand dollars, but agreed on $ 4800 with a penny, plus they also offered a stereo system in addition, but the comrades demanding the ransom refused. Either they did not like the difficulties with shipment (the stereo system was in the USA), or they did not find a buyer.
- Why not compromise? Voss explains it this way: "Imagine you're going to an appointment and you want to wear black shoes. But your wife insists on yellow shoes!
- Would it be a good compromise to wear one black shoe and one yellow? I spent an hour of pleasant idling over the problem. And even, in the end, I came to the conclusion that maybe not so bad, a yellow shoe and a black shoe? If anyone comes to a different conclusion, let me know I will be happy to discuss!
- And Kramer reads just gorgeously, you can't tear yourself away!
